Brass Taps (2007-11-26)

November 26, 2007

About 10 keeners showed up on Monday night at Brass Taps at Carlton and Wellesley. It was another cold, wet night for the hash. Nothing to fear however, as veteran trail layer Shadow was the co hare along with enthusiastic first timer Casket Case. At least that is what we thought.

We all shivered just a little bit more as hash naysayer Rose Eh admitted she was feeling even more grumpy than usual. Chalk talk on the street was mercifully brief. Nights such as these seldom produce visitors or virgins.

The trail was classic Shadow... very compact. First we went up Parliament, then down Parliament, then a double loop-the-loop around Allan Gardens. Although Wet 'n Dirty and a gimpy 6" Under started as the only non runners, eventually the entire pack ended up walking behind Shadow as he refreshed the marks which had been washed out by the wintry mix.

Highlight of the trail, as usual, was the beer check. This time we found ourselves in the common room at Chez Casket. Blessedly birthday boy COD had dropped a partial keg off before the hash, ensuring plenty of fluid replacement for all. I'm confident that if COD ever loses his aerospace engineering job that Molson's would welcome him as a delivery driver.

Down downs too plentiful to mention (or remember) were meted out while the hash choir entertained Casket Case's prohibitionist housemate Just Kate and her friend, Just Dan. The rest of us were entertained by Birdbrian talking complete nonsense incessantly. Rose Eh was singled out as her beloved Roughriders had just won the Grey Cup. She was happy to gloat even though she admitted that she didn't watch the game.

Back at Brass Tacks the half minds gathered for food and socializing while Duct Tape hopped on the first eastbound streetcar. Perhaps he was trying to avoid an ugly scene like Natty's on Saturday. He need not have feared as New Shoez was left in charge of collecting money for the tab.
